The Tessaro custom stitched cowhide rug transforms small sections of natural hair-on hide into a refined basket-weave pattern. Each 2" × 4" rectangle is paired to form a four-inch square module, then alternated horizontally and vertically across the field.

Warm variations of caramel, champagne, honey, and sand give the precise geometry a natural sense of movement. Fine stitching and changing hair direction further define the individual pieces, creating a richly textured surface that reveals new detail as the light shifts.

The Story Behind Tessaro

Tessaro is a name created for the collection, chosen for its echo of tessera—the small individual pieces traditionally assembled to form a mosaic.

In the same way, Tessaro builds a complex surface from one simple rectangular form. Each pair turns in relation to the next, creating the rhythm and visual movement of a woven basket. The result is orderly without feeling rigid: a balance of disciplined geometry, natural material, and subtle tonal variation.

Made for Your Space

Each Tessaro rug is handmade to order in Brazil and adapted to the dimensions selected for your space. The 2" × 4" scale of the individual cowhide pieces remains consistent, allowing the basket-weave pattern to retain its detail and proportion in both standard and custom sizes.

The warm neutral palette works beautifully in modern, transitional, organic, and traditionally designed interiors. Its smaller-scale pattern provides visual interest without overpowering the surrounding room.

Because genuine cowhide is a natural material, every finished rug will have its own variations in color, markings, hair direction, and sheen. These differences are part of the design and ensure that no two Tessaro rugs are exactly alike.

A Note About the Images

The full-size rug image is a digital visualization created from the Tessaro sample to illustrate the design at approximately 8' × 10'. The finished made-to-order rug will preserve the scale and alternating basket-weave pattern shown, while individual hide tones, markings, placement, hair direction, and stitching will naturally vary.

The sample and close-up photographs provide the closest reference for Tessaro’s natural color, texture, and construction.
