Every Furug cowhide rug begins with a simple philosophy:
We source the exceptional.
Rather than purchasing large quantities based solely on grade, every hide is individually selected for its scale, hair quality, natural luster, softness, and distinctive character.
The result is a collection of Brazilian cowhide rugs chosen not because they meet a minimum standard—but because they exceed ours.
From private residences to designer showhouses and luxury hospitality projects, Furug cowhide rugs have become trusted by interior designers seeking natural materials with lasting beauty.
Please Note: Cowhide rugs are a natural product and some of them may have branding, scratches and the odd mark on the skin. This is a normal characteristic of some cowhide rugs. All of our hide selections are based on extra-large size, color and markings.
Interior designers have trusted Furug for hundreds of residential and commercial projects because every rug is individually photographed, hand selected, and naturally one of a kind.
Unlike warehouse inventory, the rug shown is the exact rug you'll receive—allowing designers to specify with confidence.
Designed for everyday living, your Furug cowhide rug requires very little maintenance. Vacuum with a brush attachment or shake out dust as needed. Wipe spills promptly with a clean cloth. For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and warm water, gently wiping with the direction of the hair.
Are cowhide rugs durable?
Yes. A high-quality cowhide rug is naturally durable and well suited for everyday living. With proper care and reasonable foot traffic, a Furug cowhide can remain a beautiful part of your home for many years. As with any natural hair-on-hide product, some wear will occur over time in heavily trafficked areas.
How do I clean a cowhide rug?
For routine care, shake out your cowhide rug or vacuum gently using a brush or upholstery attachment. Blot spills promptly with a clean cloth. For more stubborn spots, use a small amount of mild soap and warm water, wiping gently in the direction of the hair. Avoid soaking the hide or using harsh chemical cleaners.
Do cowhide rugs shed?
A properly tanned, high-quality cowhide rug should experience very little shedding. Because cowhide is a natural material, occasional loose hairs are normal, particularly with use. Excessive shedding can be an indication of lower-quality tanning or improper care.
Is every cowhide rug unique?
Yes. No two natural cowhides are exactly alike. Color, markings, shape, hair direction and other natural characteristics vary from hide to hide. Furug individually photographs our one-of-a-kind cowhide rugs so the hide shown on the product page is the exact hide you will receive.
Can I vacuum a cowhide rug?
Yes. Cowhide rugs can be vacuumed using a brush or upholstery attachment with gentle suction. Vacuum in the direction of the hair and avoid aggressive rotating or beater-bar brushes that can unnecessarily pull at the hair.
Can cowhide rugs be used on hardwood floors?
Yes. Cowhide rugs work beautifully on hardwood, stone, tile and many other hard flooring surfaces. A quality rug pad may be used underneath for additional cushioning and to help prevent movement, particularly in higher-traffic areas.
Where can I use a cowhide rug?
Cowhide rugs are exceptionally versatile and can be used in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, entry spaces and other interiors. Their organic shape also makes them ideal for layering over larger wool, sisal or natural-fiber rugs. Because each hide has its own proportions and markings, cowhide works especially well where a room needs texture, movement or an organic element.
Are Furug cowhide rugs ethically sourced?
Yes. Furug cowhide rugs are ethically sourced from the cattle industry, where hides are a natural byproduct that would otherwise go unused. We work with established suppliers and tanneries in Brazil and individually select our cowhides for their quality, scale and distinctive natural character.
